This Privacy Policy covers the Longpath website and iOS app. The website is deliberately data-minimal, and the app is designed to keep personal data on your device.

Website and Hosting

This website is a statically generated information site. It has no user accounts or forms and does not use analytics, advertising, tracking, cookies, browser storage, or performance-monitoring tools. All page resources are served from the Longpath domain; your browser does not load resources from third-party CDNs. The website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When your browser requests the website, Vercel necessarily processes connection data such as the IP address, requested address, date and time, referrer, and browser information to deliver and secure the service. A public website cannot be delivered without this limited processing. Vercel may retain request metadata under its platform retention settings and legal obligations. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is the secure and reliable delivery of this website. Vercel may process data in the United States and through subprocessors. Vercel states that it uses the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and EU Standard Contractual Clauses as transfer safeguards.

HealthKit Workouts

With your permission, Longpath reads activity data from Apple Health. For supported walking, running, and cycling activities, the app uses the workout identifier, activity type, start and end time, and total distance. This data is used only to import activities, prevent duplicate imports, calculate journey progress, detect milestones and completed journeys, and keep progress up to date in the background. Longpath does not write data to Apple Health. Health data is not used for advertising, marketing, or profiling. It is not received or sold by the developer or transmitted to third parties.

Local Storage

Longpath stores the following information locally on your device: your journeys and their names, activity type, and start date; selected places and coordinates; route geometry, distance, and progress; milestones and completions; imported activity data; Health synchronization state; local event history; and app settings. Longpath does not use user accounts, its own cloud synchronization, or its own server for this data. Longpath excludes its local app-data directory from device and iCloud backups.

Location Search and Permission

When you open place search, Longpath may ask for access to your location while you use the app. If you allow access, your current location is used to provide more relevant place suggestions. Longpath does not continuously record your location and does not use it for navigation or background location tracking. Search terms, the search region, and selected start and destination places are sent to Apple through MapKit to provide place suggestions and routes. Apple’s Privacy Policy applies to Apple’s processing. Longpath stores selected place names, coordinates, and the calculated route locally as part of your journey.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Longpath can show local notifications for reached milestones and completed journeys. These notifications may include a journey destination or milestone and may be visible on the Lock Screen, depending on your iOS settings. They are scheduled on your device; Longpath does not use an external push-notification service.

No Tracking

Longpath does not use analytics or advertising services, advertising identifiers, cookies, or tracking SDKs. The developer does not receive, sell, or rent your app, Health, or location data. Longpath uses Apple system services such as HealthKit, MapKit, and notifications. MapKit requests are processed by Apple as described above.

Retention and Deletion

Local data remains stored while Longpath is installed on your device or until you delete it within the app where a deletion option is available. Deleting a journey removes that journey and its route and progress. Imported activity data, synchronization state, and local event history may remain stored. Deleting Longpath causes iOS to remove its local app data. Longpath excludes its local app-data directory from device and iCloud backups. Deleting Longpath or a journey does not change or delete data in Apple Health.

Withdrawing Consent

All permissions are optional. You can change or withdraw access to Health data in the Health app or iOS Settings, and change Location and Notification access in iOS Settings. After access is withdrawn, Longpath stops accessing the affected data in the future. Previously imported or stored data is not deleted automatically. Parts of the app remain available with reduced functionality when permissions are not granted.

Your Data Protection Rights

Subject to the conditions of the GDPR, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or data portability, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority for the website operator is the Baden-Württemberg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (LfDI Baden-Württemberg). Longpath does not use automated decision-making or profiling.
